As I get back into reading, I’m finding that it’s getting harder and harder to avoid picking up every new release that comes out. They all have beautiful covers, interesting plots, and have been raved about on Twitter, Goodreads, and YouTube. I’ve been dong my best to resist, but sometimes… it’s just really tough.
So! That brings me to the point of this list today. I wanted to share my currently pre-ordered titles.
First is Children of Blood and Bone, which was just released on March 6th, so, no longer a preorder, but I did receive it on that day. The cover of this book is absolutely gorgeous, and the plot seems just as enticing. This is a West African-inspired fantasy debut novel by Tomi Adeyemi, and reviews for this book are very high. Currently rated at 4.5 stars, this book follows Zélie Adebola, who teams up with a rogue princess to try and bring back magic and avenge the death of her mother. I’m super excited to dive into this world, and hopefully it lives up to the hype and expectations.
Second on this list is Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel, which is the third book of the Themis Files. I read the first book last January, and then the second book when it came out last March. So here I am, a year later, anxiously awaiting the third and final book in the trilogy. I don’t want to go into the premise, mainly because I don’t want spoilers for myself. These books are sci-fi and are told through a series of interviews and news articles. The first book in the series, Sleeping Giants, is about pieces of giant robot parts which are found buried in the earth and the repercussions that this has. These books are political, scientific, and are really really interesting. I’m super excited for this to come out on May 1st.
So my third book on this list has already come out. It actually came out all the way back in 2013. Vicious is the story of two college roommates who decide that they want to try and develop extraordinary abilities. This book has pretty high ratings, and is something that I’ve been looking to read for a while. That being said, I was never a big fan of the cover. And then, the announcement happened. The sequel to Vicious, Vengeful, will be coming out in September, and a new cover was created for Vicious. I immediately pre-ordered both. The new cover for Vicious comes out in late May, so I’ll have plenty of time to read through that one before the Vengeful release.
The next book on this list is On The Come Up by Angie Thomas, which comes out on June 5th. This book is Thomas’ second novel, and after the massive success of her debut novel The Hate U Give, this book has a lot of hype surrounding it. This story follows sixteen-year-old Bri who wants to be a professional rapper, and struggles with following her dreams as the pieces of her life start to fall apart. This book sounds like it’s going to be just as powerful and important as Thomas’ first and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, the debut novel by Hank Green, comes out on September 25th. I’m pretty hesitant, but also very excited about this book. It follows twenty-three-year-old April May, who posts a video of a strange statue that appears in her front yard, and then deals with the repercussions of becoming a celebrity overnight. Hank Green’s music has always been witty and right up my alley, and I’m hoping that this kind of humor is present in this book as well.
The final book that I have on this list is Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. This is the second book in what I believe is a duology, the first of which was Strange the Dreamer. I loved the first book in this series a lot. It was whimsical and magical and well written, like all of Laini Taylor’s books. This is definitely my most anticipated release of this year, even the cover is gorgeous.
I can’t wait to read all seven of these books. Hopefully they’ll live up to their expectations!
