February Recap

This past month I definitely slowed down my reading, to the point where towards the end of the month I hit a pretty bad slump, one which I’m still working to get out of. I read some great books this year, and I’m still 5 books ahead of schedule. At the end of this month, I also had two books which I started, and did not finish (and likely will not finish…)

Here are the books I did read, and really enjoyed. Hopefully the second half of March will be much better than the second half of February was.

Scythe by Neal Shusterman – January 29th – February 1st

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – February 2nd

Bossypants by Tina Fey – February 4th – 7th

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman – February 2nd – 8th

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – February 13th

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn – February 14th – 17th

As for the other two, I started reading Authority by Jeff VanderMeer, which I got 100 pages into before deciding that it is not for me. Like the first one, I found the writing vague and the characters not compelling. I will not be continuing with this trilogy.

The second book was Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen. I started this book on February 18th, and just yesterday decided that I’m not going to continue with the book. Again, I got about 100 pages into the book. The writing was very simplistic and I felt that on page one the reader was expected to have feelings and care about characters that they had just met. I’m going to keep my physical copy of the book, but I’m not going to come back to it any time soon. As more reviews come in for this book, I may return, but it will take a lot to go back to this story.

This month I’m planning on reading Children of Blood and Bone, Little Fires Everywhere, and The Hate U Give, but we’ll see where the month takes us.
